Family Learning

Empowering Learning is all about making a real difference in the lives of young people with learning difficulties.  Simply put, this programme provides new ideas which can be applied across the whole spectrum of learning difficulties form the simple to the more complex – from a basic dislike of reading or maths through to those affected by:

Dyslexia – Dyspraxia – ADHD – Dyscalculia – Asperger’s – Tourette’s
– Autism (mild) – and more

These tools and techniques can be applied to help with any educational subject, in any learning situation and utilised throughout your child’s or young adult’s educational journey.  It can help maximise both learning experience and performance and may well, in some cases, reduce the need for ongoing learning support.

Empowering Learning helps young people to learn how to learn by tapping into their ability for mental imagery and there are 7 key areas where these skills can be applied: Concentration, Reading, Spelling, Writing, Memory & Sequencing, Telling the Time and Numeracy.

The great thing about this programme is that it lends itself perfectly to a Family Learning style.  Parents alongside their children and/or their young adults can work together collaboratively, ensuring that there is a firm commitment to the required daily practice.  Parents, you will feel empowered by helping them to learn these new tools and techniques and by being actively involved in the current and ongoing learning.

What makes this programme so unlike any other?

  • Builds on strengths (distracts focus from weaknesses)
  • Separates skill of learning from the skill of teaching
  • Taps into ability for mental imagery
  • Emphasis on ‘Learning to Learn’ rather than teaching to learn a specific subject
  • Overcomes stress, a barrier to learning
  • Provides access to simple skills especially for those with challenges relating to concentration, memory, literacy, numeracy, and clarity of thought
  • Emphasis on ‘learning how to learn’ rather than teaching to learn a specific subject
  • Person centred approach

There is an accompanying and fully comprehensive manual and CD which can be used by Teachers, Support staff and Parents alike, which takes a very structured approach and requires ONLY 10 minutes practice a day.  Right from the start, students will learn how to access the right emotional state in order to be ready, calm and relaxed and with no barriers to learning.

Having been personally trained by Olive Hickmott* I am truly committed to the Empowering Learning™ approach and I am also 100% convinced that you will be amazed at the results that can be achieved.
